Principal's Message...

By Rebecca Meek | Posted: Thursday December 4, 2025

As we nearly reach the final week of the school year, I want to express my sincere gratitude. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to work here, for the wonderful people I share my days with, and for my job. The staff and students consistently bring laughter, happiness, and smiles to my day.

This week has been filled with fun activities for our students. The Year 8 team has enjoyed afternoons of social dancing and an options programme, which included fishing, art, music, volleyball, golf, and squash, among others. The students have thoroughly appreciated this opportunity, and I want to thank Mrs Johnston and the team for organising it. Our Year 7 team also had a great time, with each class heading out for a ten-pin bowling session.

In a world that often presents difficulties, embracing gratitude is a powerful tool for empowerment. It helps us shift our focus from what we lack to what we have, fostering a positive outlook that builds motivation and resilience. This is a particularly appropriate time of year to pause and be thankful for the meaningful connections we have made, especially with our Year 8 students over their two years here.

We are eagerly anticipating our end-of-year celebrations. Our Diligence Assembly will be held next Friday, 1 pm, and our Prizegiving is scheduled for Tuesday, 16 December, 12 noon, where we will have the chance to recognise and thank the students for all their effort and hard work. We will also be celebrating our Year 8 students on Wednesday night at our Year 8 social—please do come along and share a dance with your child.

Therefore, a truly heartfelt thank you to all of you for being such an integral part of your child’s journey at Oamaru Intermediate.

Have a wonderful weekend
