We need your help TOMORROW. Sickness is everywhere!

By Belinda Hirst | Posted: Thursday October 9, 2025

Tomorrow we have five teachers away and not enough staff to replace them in the classroom. We are asking that if it is at all possible, please keep your child at home tomorrow if they are feeling unwell. We have had a significant number of students away each day this week, and then A LOT more presenting with cold and flu symptoms; runny nose, sore throat, headaches, vomiting and diarrhea. We have sent a very large number of these students home every day over the past four days.

The teachers currently unwell are mainly from rooms in the West Block (rooms 11-14) and the Learning Hub, and will not be at school tomorrow, Friday, October 10th.

We kindly request that if your child is able to, and if your child is showing any signs or symptoms of illness, you keep them at home tomorrow to prevent further spread. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a healthy (as possible) environment for all our students and staff.

For those who are well, they come to school as normal. Note that we will be joining classrooms together to cater for fewer teaching staff.

As a sidenote:

Please also keep in mind that many students have travelled over the school holidays, a number were in Northland, where there are now 10 cases of measles.

In NZ, measles symptoms begin with a high fever, cough, runny nose, and sore red eyes (conjunctivitis), sometimes with Koplik spots inside the mouth. A distinctive rash follows, starting on the face and spreading down the body.

If you develop these symptoms or have been in contact with a case, contact your healthcare provider or call Healthline on 0800 611 116 for free advice.
