Principal's Message...
On Wednesday night, I had the pleasure of attending the Waitaki Boys’ High School Prizegiving, celebrating the achievements of our former students and a reminder of how special our school community is.
Congratulations to all our students representing the school at the North Otago Athletics on Monday. Previously, the North Otago Athletics was held during the day, but this year, it is held during the day. Good luck to all the students representing OIS.
Our students have also been working hard to write and rehearse their speeches, and we look forward to hearing the finalists on 10 November.
Acting with Respect and Kindness
I often have conversations with students about Acting with Respect. It’s not just about how we speak to others; it’s also about our actions. As we head into another week, we’re putting a real focus on KINDNESS. Kindness can be as simple as a smile. It costs nothing, but has the power to make someone’s day.
With only six weeks remaining in the school year, let's prioritise kindness to ensure a successful conclusion to the year.
Focus on acts of kindness
Think about others before yourself
Do or say something nice, and don't expect anything in return
Think before we act and speak
Smile
I encourage you to talk with your child about how they can show kindness and act with respect in their daily interactions. Asking your child simple questions like, "Who did you help today?" or "Who helped you today?" encourages them to reflect on the importance of kindness and builds their awareness of positive actions. These small conversations can make a big difference in fostering empathy and a sense of community. Let’s work together to nurture these values as we finish the school year strong.
Together, we can create a supportive and positive environment for everyone.
2026 Camping programme
Invoices that included camp balances were sent home this week. The total cost of camp has been confirmed at $350, made up of $100 deposit due today and a $250 balance due in March 2026. If you are interested in being a parent helper and missed the information, please contact your child's teacher.
