From Robotic Petanque to the "Digi 500"

This week in Digital Technology, our Year 7s began their introductory robotics lessons using Sphero Robots. Students learnt how to program the Spheros to use their inbuilt sensors, to trigger sounds and display animations on their LED matrices.

Following this, students learned about programming the Spheros for movement. They were then challenged to a game of robotic petanque, using a Sphero as the ball and programming it to navigate around obstacles to get closest to the target.

In Year 8 Digital Technology Enrichment, students have been building their own radio-controlled cars, using electronic equipment and recycled materials. Students are currently building a prototype, which will be tested and developed over the next few weeks. We are having a race (the "Digi 500") in the upcoming weeks where their final products will be put to the test! Here are some photos and a video of students testing their cars today.
